This update makes repeated screenshots faster and gives screen recording a smoother, clearer start.

Repeat Your Last Screenshot

• Added a configurable Repeat Last Screenshot shortcut.
• Recapture the same area, the same window, or the same original display without reopening the area selector or window picker.
• Repeated captures use your current screenshot settings, including delay, format, quality, clipboard, preview, upload, and save behavior.
• ScreenSnap temporarily hides its preview and editor windows so they do not appear in the repeated capture.
• If the original window or display is no longer available, ScreenSnap lets you know instead of capturing the wrong target.
• The shortcut is unassigned by default and can be configured in Settings → Shortcuts.

ScreenSnap remembers the last completed screenshot while the app is running. Cancelled or unsuccessful captures do not replace it.

Faster, Clearer Recording Starts

• A visible Preparing… screen now appears immediately after you start a recording, removing the unexplained pause before the countdown.
• Screen capture, microphone, and camera sources are prepared before the countdown begins.
• The countdown now begins only after capture is ready, greatly reducing the previous wait between zero and the first recorded frame.
• When the countdown is disabled, ScreenSnap still shows preparation progress before recording begins.
• Click or press Esc during preparation to cancel. During the countdown, either action skips ahead and starts recording.
• Improved cancellation and cleanup during startup to prevent stuck or partially started recording sessions.

Reliability Improvements

• Updated core app components for improved compatibility and release reliability on macOS and Windows.

What’s New

This update adds faster capture workflows, more control over the editor, and several quality-of-life improvements for recordings and annotations.

Freeze the Screen While Selecting on macOS

• Added an optional Freeze Screen While Selecting setting for area captures.
• When enabled, moving video and temporary UI such as menus, dropdowns, and hints remain visually frozen while you select.
• Timed captures and screen recordings remain live.
• Fixed an issue where crossing displays could cause windows to recompose or jump between screens.
• The crosshair cursor now stays consistent across connected displays.
• Optimized activation by preparing the display under the pointer first and loading other displays in the background or when needed.

The setting is off by default and can add a small delay while the initial frame is captured.

New Direct Recording Shortcuts

• Added a configurable Record Area shortcut that opens area selection and starts recording without opening the recording setup window first.
• Added a configurable Record Display shortcut. With one display, ScreenSnap selects it automatically; with several, it opens the display chooser.
• Both shortcuts use your saved recording format, countdown, and audio, camera, and microphone preferences where supported.
• The new shortcuts are unassigned by default to avoid taking over existing system-wide key combinations.

Update Existing Presets

• Custom screenshot-editor presets now include an Update icon, so you can replace a preset with the editor’s current settings.
• A confirmation prompt names the preset and warns before its saved settings are replaced.
• The built-in Default preset remains protected from changes.

More Control After Copying

• Added a Hide Editor After Copying setting.
• Keep the existing automatic-hide behavior, or turn it off to leave the editor open after copying with the Copy button or keyboard shortcut.

Editor Toolbar Polish

• Copy progress and success animations no longer resize the button or move neighboring controls.
• Centered the Copy success checkmark.
• Reduced the spacing between Copy and Save to match the video editor.

Smarter Counter Annotations

• Deleting a numbered counter now automatically recalculates the remaining sequence.
• Undo restores the original counters and numbers; redo reapplies the recalculated sequence.
• New counters continue from the corrected number, and exported images use the updated numbering.
